Diabetes Week 2017: DFA’s National Plan to end avoidable amputations within a generation
DFA was established in 2015 with the goal of “Ending avoidable amputations in a generation”. In the last two years, we have not only showcased the problem in Australia, but have also developed a plan to tackle the burden of diabetic foot disease.
Through expert engagement, DFA developed the “National Plan to End Avoidable Amputations within a generation in Australia” with the goal for all people with, or at risk of, diabetic foot disease to have the following three priorities addressed:
- Access to care when they need it
- Care that is safe and of quality
- Research and development that improves care in the future
Following an open national consultation with other peak bodies and individuals representing the expertise in clinical treatment of Diabetic Foot Disease, DFA are revising the draft National Plan to incorporate this valuable consultation feedback.
The official “National Plan to end avoidable Amputations within a generation in Australia” will be announced at the 2017 DFA Conference on the Gold Coast on the 4th & 5th of September.
With the announcement of the official conference program and abstracts on Monday 17th July, now is the perfect time to register and reserve your conference workshop choices covering wound infection, vascular surgery, multi-disciplinary treatment and biomechanics.
