ABSTRACT:

Review question/objective: The aim of this systematic review is to identify the key design features of footwear and insoles that are used to offload the plantar surface of the foot to prevent foot ulceration in adults with diabetes. More specifically, the objectives are to identify the key design features of footwear and insoles to offload the plantar surface of the foot with regard to: Profile/shape of the insole, shoe upper and shoe outsole Material type and properties of the insole and shoe outsole Modifications made to the insole and shoe outsole Fabrication techniques used for the insole and shoe.
